Imagine earning a five-star hotel stay every year just by paying your credit card fee.
That is the value of the HDFC Marriott Bonvoy Credit Card.
I treat this card as a “no-spend workhorse”—paying the annual fee solely to secure the Free Night Award and unconditional lounge access, while using other cards for daily expenses.
This review breaks down the card’s reward structure, milestone benefits, redemption mechanics, and everything you need to decide if it belongs in your wallet.

How I got this card

I had ~1 lakh per month income and ~780 credit score at the time of application.
The process was totally digital, but the approval came after a few days. My existing relationship—Millennia card with HDFC Bank might have helped me get approval for the card.
I received the physical card within 5 days of approval.
💡 My Suggestion: For your first HDFC card, apply for a core card like Millennia, as upgrading from a co-branded card is usually restricted.
Annual Fee & Benefit
| Joining Fee | ₹3,000 + GST |
| Welcome Benefit | Free Night Award up to 15,000 points |
| Renewal Fee | ₹3,000 + GST |
| Renewal Benefit | Free Night Award up to 15,000 points |
| Renewal Fee Waiver | None |
The annual fee is non-waivable.
But it is instantly neutralized by the welcome and renewal benefit: a Free Night Award (FNA) up to 15,000 MB Points typically worth ≥ ₹7500.
Reward Structure (Earn Rate)
The value of one MB point is typically ₹0.50, but it can get up to ₹1 or higher based on property and booking time.
| Spend Category | Marriott Bonvoy Points Earned | Return Rate (Assuming 1 point = ₹0.50) |
|---|---|---|
| Marriott Bonvoy Hotels | 8 Points per ₹150 spent | 0.66% |
| Travel, Dining & Entertainment | 4 Points per ₹150 spent | 1.33% |
| All Other Eligible Spends | 2 Points per ₹150 spent | 2.66% |
❌ No reward points on: fuel, rent, wallet loads, government spending, or EMI conversions.
Earned reward points automatically transfer to your Marriott Bonvoy account within the 12 weeks post-billing cycle.
To be honest, the reward rate is too low compared to other mid-premium travel cards. For instance, Axis Horizon card offers an accelerated reward of 5% Edge Miles on Axis Travel Edge.
Free Night Award & Redemption Process

Free Night Award (FNA) is valued at up to 15,000 MB points.
And you can club up to 25,000 points to a FNA to make high-value bookings up to 40,000 points.
Redemption Caps & Rules
| Parameter | Limitation / Cap |
|---|---|
| Base FNA Value | Up to 15,000 points. If the room costs less, you forfeit the difference. |
| Maximum Top-Up | Up to 25,000 additional points from your account. |
| Absolute Room Cap | 40,000 points per night (15,000 base + 25,000 top-up). |
| Cash Restrictions | You cannot use cash to cover the difference. The FNA value can only be expanded using points. |
| Transferability | The FNA cannot be transferred. It must be used by the primary account holder. |
| Expiration | Valid for one year. It must be redeemed for a stay on or prior to its expiration date. |
My Redemption Experience

I booked the JW Marriott Chandigarh—a luxury stay usually costing over ₹16,000 for 3 guests.
I redeemed 19000 points (15,000-point FNA + 4,000 points) and got effective value of ~₹0.84/point.
For a ₹3,540 fee, this is an unbeatable value play.
💡 Pro tip: I booked one room for 3 guests using FNA + points and didn’t have to pay extra points for the 3rd guest while the extra money is asked when you pay in cash.
Milestone Benefits (Additional Free Nights)
High spenders can unlock up to three additional Free Night Awards annually.
| Annual Spend Threshold | Milestone Reward (FNA) |
|---|---|
| ₹6 Lakhs | 1 Free Night (15k points) |
| ₹9 Lakhs | 1 Free Night (15k points) |
| ₹15 Lakhs | 1 Free Night (15k points) |
However, I don’t prefer spending high on this card because even with these milestones, you can extract a return of ~2% only, which is poor compared to other mid-premium credit cards like Regalia Gold.
Elite Status & 10 Elite Night Credits
Activating the card automatically grants you Silver Elite Status and 10 Elite Night Credits (ENCs) every calendar year.

Silver Elite Key Perks:
- 10% bonus points on eligible Marriott stays
- Priority late checkout (subject to availability)
- Cash + Points redemption
While Silver Elite is modest, the 10 ENCs fast-track your progress toward Gold or Platinum status, offering significant value for Marriott loyalists.
Unconditional Lounge Access & Golf
You get 12 domestic and 12 international lounge visits per calendar year.
No spend condition—Unlike most travel cards, this card doesn’t require you to hit a spend milestone to unlock the complementary airport lounge benefit.
Because the card is issued on the Diners Club platform, you simply swipe the card directly at the lounge—no separate Priority Pass is required.
My experience: I have seamlessly accessed the Encalm Lounge at Delhi T1 and the Bird Lounge in Bhubaneswar just by presenting the card, with zero complications or spend-tracking required.
Golf Privileges: The card also includes 2 complimentary golf games and 2 complimentary golf lessons per quarter.
Honest Pros & Cons
Pros:
- Free Night Award out-values the ₹3,540 fee every year.
- 12 Domestic + 12 International lounge visits with zero spend conditions.
- Complimentary 10 Elite Night Credits jumpstart your Marriott status.
- Direct swipe for Diners Club lounges internationally.
Cons:
- Poor reward rate on regular and marriott spends.
- No annual fee waiver option.
- High forex markup fee (3.5%) compared to other premium travel cards.
Final Verdict: Should You Apply?
Mobodaily Rating: 4.5/5
Yes, the HDFC Marriott Bonvoy is the best no-spend card for me.
It is a must-have for Marriott loyalists or travelers seeking a guaranteed luxury hotel night and annual lounge access for just ₹3,540.
Don’t use it as your primary card for daily spending due to its low base reward rate. Even if you target the ₹15L milestone for extra nights, it’s not worth it.
I recommend having this as a no-spend tool in your credit card stack
