Building the best credit card stack in India takes time — and a lot of trial and error.
I’ve been at it for over 6 years. I currently hold 20+ cards, and every single one has a job. One for Amazon, one for fuel, one for airport lounges, one for Tata brands. Together, they cover almost every category at the best return I can get.
Some cards in my stack were mistakes. Some are goldmines.
I’ll tell you which is which — no features dump, just what I actually use and whether it’s worth your wallet space.

SBI Cards
SBI SimplyCLICK

My first credit card — 6 years old. The 2.5% return rate on partner spends is decent. But I hold it specifically for instant bank discounts during major sales like Amazon Great Indian Festival and Flipkart Big Billion Days.
✅ Best for: Online shoppers cum beginners. FYF effectively, easy approval, and pairs beautifully with SBI Cashback. Read full review →
👆 Get ₹500 Amazon Pay Voucher on Activation 🎁
SBI Cashback

My go-to for online shopping. Flat 5% cashback on all online spends — no partner restrictions.
💡 Hack: Buy Amazon Pay vouchers with this card to get 5% back, then use those vouchers for fuel (IOCL vouchers via Gyftr) and utility bills on Amazon. Effectively 5% on categories the card doesn’t directly reward.
✅ Best for: 5% back on regular online shopping. Read full review →
👆 Save ₹24K+ per year 💸
Best SBI credit card combo: SimplyCLICK + Cashback. Here’s the thing — the Cashback card doesn’t qualify for instant discount during sales. So, I use SimplyCLICK for instant sale discounts, Cashback card for flat 5% on everything else online.
Federal Bank
Scapia (Visa + RuPay)

Scapia offers unlimited domestic lounge access (spend 20k/month) — rare for a lifetime free card. Every departure, you can pick one airport benefit: lounge / dining / shopping / spa.
💡 Tip: I personally use other best cards for lounge access (no spend condition) and keep Scapia for the free airport shopping credit up to ₹1,000.
Plus, 2% base reward rate and zero forex on international spends make it very easy to recommend this card to anyone. The RuPay card gives 1% back.
✅ Best for: Free travel card with unlimited lounges, zero-fee, zero-forex markup, and real airport benefits. Read full review →
👆 Get ₹1000 Flight Voucher as referral benefit 🎁
Axis Bank
Axis Flipkart

My go-to for Flipkart, Myntra, and Cleartrip. 5% back on Flipkart, 7.5% on Myntra, and a double dip on Cleartrip — coupon discount + 5% back.
The Myntra angle: Most card offers on Myntra require a minimum purchase of ₹3,000–₹3,500 to unlock the discount. Flipkart Axis doesn’t. 7.5% back on any order above ₹100.
✅ Best for: Anyone who spends on Flipkart, Myntra, and Cleartrip regularly. ₹500 fee recovered in one or two transactions.
👆 Get ₹500 Flikart + ₹500 Cleartrip Voucher 🎁
Axis Horizon

Welcome benefit makes it effectively FYF — spend ₹1,000 in first transaction and get 5,000 Edge Miles worth ≥₹5,000.
2 Edge Miles per ₹100 on regular spends, 5 miles on TravelEdge portal and direct airline bookings. I transfer points to international airline partners for best value.
✅ Best For: 32 domestic + 8 international lounge visits—no spend condition. Main reason to hold this as your stack grows. Read full review →
👆 Get Welcome Benefit worth ₹5000 🎁
Axis MyZone Visa
Just upgraded from my IndianOil RuPay to this — better in every way at zero annual fee.
- SonyLiv subscription for a year 🎬
- BOGO movie tickets (up to ₹200) 🍿
- ₹120 off on ₹500+ Swiggy orders 🍕
✅ Best for: Anyone who watches OTT, catches movies occasionally, or orders on Swiggy. No reason not to hold it.
Best Axis credit card stack: Flipkart + Horizon + MyZone. Shopping, miles and lounges, and soft benefits — all three covered.
HDFC Bank
HDFC Millennia

One of the best cashback cards for beginners, effectively free for the first year. Easily gives ₹12,000–₹16,000 cashback in a year if used right.
The double dip benefit: Use it on Flipkart, Amazon, and Myntra during sales — you get the bank’s instant discount plus 5% cashback on top. Both stack.
Fee waived on ₹1L monthly spend. Also pays 1% back on education fee payments — useful for parents.
✅ Best for: Anyone spending over ₹1L/year online. Fee waiver makes it effectively free.
👆 Get ₹1000 cashpoints on paying joining fee 🎁
HDFC Swiggy OG

Primary use: 10% back on groceries, dining, and online food orders via Swiggy.
Secondary use: 5% cashback on other online spends, capped at ₹1,500/month.
Now, HDFC has replaced it with Swiggy BLCK, offering it as FYF with the same benefits.
✅ Best for: Regular Swiggy users and online shoppers.
👆 Get 10% back on food, grocery, & 5% online 💸
HDFC Tataneu Infinity

Got it as FYF. A goldmine if you spend on Tata brands. 10% back on Tataneu app, 5% at partner outlets — Zudio, Starbucks, Westside, Croma, etc.
Even rewards on utility and jewelry, categories most cards exclude. The RuPay variant gives 1.5% on UPI spends on top. Also get exclusive 30% off on IHCL hotel bookings.
💡 My recent experience: Bought a 10g gold coin from Tanishq, earned ₹8,000+ in Neu Coins, redeemed them for a free Taj hotel stay.
✅ Best for: Anyone who regularly spends on Tata brands or buys jewelry.
👆 Get 1499 Neu coins on first transaction 🎁
HDFC Marriott Bonvoy

My no-spend travel card. ₹3,000 annual fee that pays for itself — free night award at any Marriott Hotel every year, worth well over ₹10,000.
Plus 12 domestic + 12 international lounge visits with no spend condition. Add-on cardholders get lounge access too.
Best for: No spend renewal benefit, anyone who wants a free 5-star stay at Marriott hotels. The free night alone justifies the fee.
✅ Best HDFC credit card stack: Swiggy/Millenia + Tataneu Infinity + Marriott Bonvoy. Cashback, food, Tata brands, and a free 5-star stay every year — all covered.
👆 Get free 5-star hotel stay worth ~₹10,000 🏨
IndusInd Bank
IndusInd RuPay Platinum

Lifetime free. Earns 2 reward points per ₹100 on UPI spends, around 1.2% return on non-cash redemptions.
I hold it purely for UPI spends and RuPay-specific offers.
✅ Best for: Anyone looking for UPI rewards at zero cost.
ICICI Bank
ICICI Coral (Visa + RuPay)

Lifetime free, easy approval. I hold both variants for occasional bank-specific offers and sale discounts. Not a primary card — but useful to have in the ICICI card stack.
✅ Best for: Beginners entering the ICICI credit cards. Easy to get, costs nothing to hold.
ICICI Sapphiro

ICICI proactively offered this as FYF — I didn’t apply for it.
The reward rate is disappointing but the 1+1 movie tickets (up to ₹500) made it worth holding for at least the first year. I’ll ask ICICI to make it LTF or just drop it.
✅ Best for: Worth getting if ICICI offers it to you as LTF. Paying the annual fee is not worth it.
ICICI HPCL SuperSaver

It gives me 6.5% value back on fuel including the 1% surcharge waiver. Effectively free in the first year — ₹500 fee offset by 2,000 reward points credited on activation. Also earns 5% on utility and grocery spends, capped at ₹100/month.
✅ Best for: Beginners who spend on fuel and utility regularly.
ICICI Amazon Pay

Lifetime free. My go-to for Amazon purchases. Gives 5% unlimited cashback on Amazon shopping, no earning cap. Plus, it came with multiple welcome coupons on recharge, shopping, and bills.
✅ Best for: Anyone who shops on Amazon. No reason not to hold it.
You can apply it on the Amazon app.
Best ICICI credit card stack: Coral + Amazon Pay + HPCL SuperSaver. Amazon for online, HPCL for fuel and utility, Coral for ecosystem offers.
Yes Bank
Yes Reserv Visa Infinite

Got it as an upgrade on my Yes Select card. Reward rate is decent — 3% on online retail, 1.5% offline, 0.75% on select categories including insurance premiums.
I hold it for premium soft benefits: 6 international lounge visits, complimentary golf sessions, purchase protection up to ₹50,000, and Visa Infinite network benefits.
✅ Best for: Best value Yes Bank credit card for premium soft benefits without paying Infinia-level fees.
⚠️ Note: It requires 2 lakhs/month income or 18L+ annual ITR to be eligible. If your current income is below, apply for the Yes Select from the link above and ask for an upgrade after 3 months.
AU Bank
AU Ixigo

Got it in January as LTF. You can enjoy double-dip on Ixigo app — 10% instant coupon discounts plus 2.5% back in reward points.
I hold it for zero forex, lounge access, and the 75K quarterly milestone benefit that unlocks lounges automatically.
✅ Best for: Anyone who wants international lounge access on a free card and books travel on Ixigo. Pairs well with Scapia — Scapia for domestic airport privileges, Ixigo for international lounges. Read full Scapia vs AU Ixigo comparison →
PNB
PNB RuPay + Visa Platinum

Both RuPay & Visa cards are free. I hold them for site-specific offers like 10% off on postpaid mobile bills paid via Paytm — been working consistently for 6 months.
✅ Best for: Site-specific PNB and RuPay card offers.
How I Think About a Card Stack
Most people overthink this. Here’s the simple framework I follow:
Start with the basics
- One cashback card for online spends — SBI Cashback or HDFC Millennia
- One travel card for zero forex and lounges — Scapia
- One UPI card — IndusInd Platinum RuPay
That three-card stack alone covers 80% of your spending at a good return rate.
Add category killers
Once the base is set, add cards that dominate specific categories you spend on regularly:
- Heavy Flipkart/Myntra shopper → Axis Flipkart
- Regular Amazon shopper → ICICI Amazon Pay
- Fuel spends → ICICI HPCL SuperSaver
- Tata brand spends → HDFC Tataneu Infinity
- Swiggy/Groceries → HDFC Swiggy BLCK
- Mid-premium Travel → HDFC Marriott & Axis Horizon
💡 The golden rule: Every card in your stack should either earn you more than your base card on a specific category, or offer a soft benefit that justifies its annual fee. If a card does neither — drop it.
FAQs
There’s no magic number. Start with 2–3 cards that cover your main spending categories. Add more only when a new card offers meaningfully better returns on a specific category than what you already hold. I hold 20+ — but each one has a clear job.
Not if you manage them responsibly. The risk is missing payments or losing track of annual fees. As long as you pay in full every month and each card earns its place, holding multiple cards is a net positive.
For most people: SBI Cashback + Scapia + ICICI Amazon Pay + ICICI HPCL SuperSaver. That covers online shopping, travel, Amazon, and fuel at zero or near-zero annual fee.
Depends on where you spend most. For online shopping — SBI Cashback. For offline spends — Scapia Visa. For UPI — IndusInd RuPay Platinum or Scapia RuPay.
Short term — yes, slightly. Each new application triggers a hard inquiry which can dip your score by a few points. Long term — multiple cards improve your credit utilisation ratio and credit history length, both of which positively impact your score. Space out applications and you’ll be fine.
Start with SBI SimplyCLICK or ICICI Coral for easy approval. Then add SBI Cashback for online spends and Scapia for travel. That three-card stack is free or near-free to hold and covers most categories well. If you’re applying for your very first card, read this first — Best First Credit Card in India. Getting rejected early can hurt your CIBIL score and delay your journey.
SimplyCLICK + Cashback. SimplyCLICK for instant sale discounts during events like Amazon Great Indian Festival and Flipkart Big Billion Days, Cashback for flat 5% on all other online spends. They complement each other perfectly — zero overlap.
Online shopping → SBI Cashback. Amazon → ICICI Amazon Pay. Flipkart/Myntra → Axis Flipkart. Fuel → ICICI HPCL SuperSaver. Travel + zero forex → Scapia. Flight bookings + miles → Axis Horizon. Tata brands + jewelry → HDFC Tataneu Infinity. Food + grocery → HDFC Swiggy OG. UPI spends → IndusInd RuPay Platinum. Insurance premiums → Yes Reserv. Postpaid bills → PNB Platinum.
