IndusInd Platinum RuPay — a lifetime-free card that pays 1.2% back on every UPI transaction.
I used this Card as my only card for UPI for about a year before moving on.
Here’s my honest experience and breakdown of what this RuPay card gets you.
Quick Overview
| Card Type | Entry-level UPI rewards card |
| Network | RuPay |
| Reward Rate | Up to 1.2% |
| Annual Fee | ₹0 — lifetime free |
| Eligibility | ~21–60 yrs, salaried/self-employed, income roughly ₹20k–30k/month (unofficial) |
| Best For | UPI-heavy spenders who don’t yet hold any other IndusInd card |
⚡️ Lifetime Free ⚡️
Reward Structure
| Spend Type | Points Earned | Effective Return (non-cash) | Effective Return (cash) |
|---|---|---|---|
| UPI transactions | 2 RP / ₹100 | 1.2% | 0.7% |
| Non-UPI (card swipe/online) | 1 RP / ₹100 | 0.6% | 0.35% |
| Utility, insurance, govt., education | 0.7 RP / ₹100 | 0.42% | 0.25% |
| Fuel | No rewards | – | – |
Unlike entry-level RuPay cards with negligible rewards, the IndusInd Platinum RuPay offers a strong return on UPI payments without monthly spend milestones or category limits, clearly outperforming competitors:
| Card Name | Effective Return | Key Constraint |
|---|---|---|
| IndusInd Platinum RuPay | 1.2% | None; Lifetime Free |
| PNB RuPay Select | 0.5% | Quarterly usage required for fee waiver |
| SBI Simply UPI | 0.16% | Extremely low base reward rate |
| Tata Neu Plus/Infinity | 1% – 1.5% | Annual fees; rewards locked to NeuCoins |
Earning itself has no artificial monthly cap — IndusInd’s own terms cap it only at your assigned credit limit per statement cycle, same as any normal card.
Small transactions count too: I’ve regularly earned points on UPI spends as low as ₹35–80.
Reward Redemption
| Redemption Route | Value per Point | Monthly Cap |
|---|---|---|
| Non-cash (Indus Moments) | ₹0.60 | None stated |
| Cash / statement credit | ₹0.35 | 2,500 points |
| KrisFlyer air miles | 4 RP = 1 mile | 10,000 points (reported) |
| Pay with Rewards | ~₹0.75, per user reports | Not confirmed |
Redeem for vouchers or catalogue item instead of cash, and you’re earning close to 1.2% on UPI spends with no monthly ceiling — a genuinely strong number for a card that costs nothing.
Other Benefits
| Benefit | Details |
|---|---|
| Rent Payments via UPI | No extra fee — the only card in IndusInd’s own lineup with this |
| Travel Insurance | ₹1L lost baggage, ₹25k baggage delay/lost ticket/missed flight, ₹50k lost passport, ₹25L personal air accident cover |
| Lounge Access | None |
| Fuel Surcharge Waiver | 1%, on transactions between ₹400–₹4,000 |
No lounge access is the one real gap — this card isn’t trying to be a travel card, it’s trying to be the best free UPI card, and on that front it mostly delivers.
The rent-payment quirk is genuinely underrated: most co-branded and premium cards either block UPI rent payments or add a surcharge, and this one doesn’t.
My Experience
This was my first IndusInd credit card, and that matters more than it sounds: IndusInd currently offers the Platinum RuPay card to new-to-bank customers only.
I ran all my everyday UPI spending through it for a year, redeeming through the non-cash catalogue route to actually capture that 1.2% rather than settling for the cash rate.

When I decided I wanted more — specifically, Air India Maharaja Club miles, I upgraded to Tiger which wasn’t instant.
My request was initially rejected with vague reasoning and was approved only after I escalated the issue to the RBI Ombudsman.

Final Verdict: Should You Apply?
Yes, IndusInd Platinum RuPay is a zero-fee way to earn a strong 1.2% uncapped return on everyday UPI spending.
Skip if you already hold an IndusInd card (you won’t be eligible anyway).
For me, it did exactly what I needed for a year: a free foothold with IndusInd and a genuinely strong return on UPI spending.
As an entry-level RuPay card — zero fee, this one is hard to ignore.

FAQs
Does this card offer airport lounge access?
No — neither domestic nor international.
Can I get this card if I already hold an IndusInd credit card?
Currently, no. It’s positioned as a first-card-only product for customers new to IndusInd Bank.
What’s the best way to redeem reward points?
Redeem through the non-cash Indus Moments catalogue (vouchers, gift cards) at ₹0.60/point rather than cash credit at ₹0.35/point — that’s the difference between a 1.2% and a 0.7% effective return on UPI spends.
Is there a cap on how many UPI rewards I can earn per month?
No official cap beyond your credit limit. Only cash redemption specifically is capped, at 2,500 points a month.
