Tata Neu Infinity Credit Card Rejected? Real Reasons + What to Do

Staring at a generic “internal credit policy” rejection email?

It’s frustrating—and often, completely arbitrary.

I was approved for the Tata Neu Infinity card instantly, with zero paperwork, because I already had an HDFC relationship. But that’s no longer the norm.

I dove into real-world data from TechnoInfo to look past the boilerplate rejection reasons.

Here is what I found regarding why applications are actually getting declined and how you can break through.

Real Rejection Reasons

You have zero relationship with HDFC

This is the single biggest factor, and it trips up even strong applicants.

One TechnoFino user was rejected despite holding an Axis Magnus, an ICICI Sapphiro, an Amex MRCC, and an SBI Vistara card — a stronger overall credit profile than most people applying for a lifetime-free co-branded card.

His only real gap: zero prior relationship with HDFC. The rejection email gave him nothing beyond boilerplate “internal credit policy” language.

I got instant approval for Tata Neu Infinity largely because I already held an HDFC Millennia and had a salary account with the bank.

That’s not a coincidence — it’s the pattern that shows up again and again in these threads.

💡 Key Takeaway: Avoid making a co-branded card like Tata Neu Infinity or Swiggy card your first HDFC card. Start with a core HDFC card instead to streamline future approvals and upgrades.

HDFC couldn’t verify your identity or address

Failed address verification (IPV): A hidden killer.

HDFC often sends an agent to verify your address; if you’re unavailable or your details are slightly misaligned, the application silently expires rather than pausing.

Since rejection notices rarely mention this, it’s a ‘silent’ failure that most applicants only discover through community sleuthing.

Your credit limit doesn’t clear HDFC’s bar for Infinity

If you’re hoping to get Infinity as an upgrade or floater from an existing HDFC card, there’s long been a rough consensus that you need around ₹1.5 lakh credit limit to qualify.

That number has never been official, and it isn’t stable.

As recently as March 2026, one community member reported that a relative holding a ₹1.57 lakh limit HDFC Millennia was still only offered Tata Neu Plus, not Infinity.

Nobody in that thread, including longtime members, could say what the current real threshold is. Treat any specific number you read about this card — including the ones in this post — as a moving target, not a guarantee.

You already have too much exposure with HDFC, or reapplied too soon

Rejections aren’t limited to people with no HDFC history.

Existing customers already holding a core card + a co-branded card have been rejected for Infinity too, apparently on exposure grounds.

Separately, closing a Tata Neu Plus card and reapplying a few months later — even after HDFC itself sent the invite to reapply — has also ended in rejection.

The reason they give you might not even be true

This is the one that should make you push back harder. One rejected applicant was told by HDFC customer care that “the bank doesn’t allow more than one core card plus one co-branded card per customer”.

Being a long-time HDFC holder — I personally hold 4 HDFC Card:

  1. Millennia (core card)
  2. Marriott Bonvoy
  3. Tata Neu Infinity
  4. Swiggy OG, proving the explanation flat-out wrong.

💡 Key takeaway: Frontline customer care doesn’t always know the actual underwriting logic. If an explanation doesn’t add up, don’t treat it as final and escalate to the nodal officer.

The standard stuff: score, income, and unresolved dues

None of the above rules out the ordinary reasons any credit card gets rejected for:

  • CIBIL score below what the card needs (Infinity’s published bar is 750+),
  • Income that doesn’t match what you declared,
  • Debt-to-income ratio that’s worsened,
  • Old unsettled due sitting quietly on your credit report, etc.

What To Do Next

Pull your CIBIL report first

Check for unsettled dues, defaults, or errors you didn’t know about. This is the community’s own first piece of advice in nearly every rejection thread, and it’s the fastest way to rule out the boring-but-common explanation.

Ask for the actual reason, in writing

Don’t accept “internal credit policy” as an answer.

Email HDFC’s grievance redressal team and ask specifically why the application was declined. If the response is still vague, escalate — HDFC runs a tiered redressal structure (L1 through L4), and multiple people in these threads got real answers, or reconsideration, simply by pushing past the first canned reply.

Build the relationship before you reapply

If you have zero HDFC history, open a savings account or get any entry-level HDFC card first. It won’t guarantee approval, but going in with no relationship at all is the single most consistently reported reason for rejection.

Take the Plus card if that’s what’s offered — this is exactly what I’d do

If HDFC offers you Tata Neu Plus instead of Infinity, accept it. It’s a real foot in the door: no meaningful annual fee, and it earns NeuCoins across the same ecosystem, just at a lower ceiling.

Use it responsibly for a few months — pay in full and on time every single cycle, keep utilization well under 30%, and put genuine, regular spending through it.

Then request an upgrade to Infinity through your relationship manager or HDFC Bank customer support. A clean few months on an existing HDFC product is a far stronger signal than a cold application will ever be.

Note: Don’t reapply immediately if you were just rejected, or recently closed a similar Tata Neu card. Give it a few months rather than going straight back in — both scenarios show up repeatedly in rejection threads.

Tata Neu Infinity Alternatives

If Infinity isn’t happening right now, here’s what I’d actually consider instead:

CardAnnual FeeKey Benefits
Tata Neu Plus₹499 + GSTUp to 10% on Tata brands, lower cap than Infinity
HDFC Millennia₹1,000 + GST5% on 10 online merchants
SBI Cashback₹999 + GST5% on all online spends, no merchant restriction
Axis Ace₹499 + GST5% utility bills via Google Pay, 4% Swiggy/Zomato/Ola
Scapia₹0 (lifetime free)0% forex markup, unlimited lounges

Bottom Line

A rejection here says less about you than it does about HDFC’s own opaque, occasionally inconsistent process.

Rule out the boring reasons first, push back on vague answers, and if Plus is what’s on the table, take it and work your way up.

That’s exactly what I’d do in your position — it’s a far better outcome than writing off the ecosystem entirely.
