Which Card Should You Get?

Get the SBI Cashback Card if:

  • Your monthly online spending remains under ₹40,000.
  • You shop across diverse online platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, or Zomato.
  • You prefer automatic statement credits with no redemption hassle.

🔒 Safe & Secure via SBI Card

Get the PhonePe Select Black if:

  • Monthly PhonePe spends are ₹15,000–₹20,000, maximizing the 1,500 RP cap.
  • You prioritize PhonePe for bills, recharges, or travel—the 10% rate is unmatched.
  • You require domestic lounge access from a mid-tier card.
  • You are comfortable manually redeeming rewards for credit or vouchers.

🔒 Safe & Secure via PhonePe App

Hold both if your online shopping is spread across non-PhonePe merchants and you have significant PhonePe + bill payment spends. For more on building a multi-card setup, check out my 20+ card stack.

Bottom Line

The SBI Cashback Card wins on simplicity — flat 5% everywhere online, auto-credited, no app dependency.

The PhonePe Select Black wins on specific use cases — if PhonePe is your primary payments app and you want lounge access thrown in.

The catch in 2026: both cards have been devalued. SBI Cashback’s online cap dropped from ₹5,000 to ₹2,000/month in April. PhonePe Black’s online cap drops from ₹2,000 to ₹1,000/month from July 1. Neither is as rewarding as it was a year ago — but both still deliver positive ROI for the right spender.
